Botox Treatment for Hyperhidrosis

The long name for Botox is Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A), a chemical combination used in the treatment of hyperhidrosis . Mostly used to treat axillary hyperhidrosis , Botox has to be injected under the skin. It works by stopping the over production of sweat by blocking the nervous ramifications that cause it. Often injected into 20 different locations in the same area, it works well for stopping the unpleasant effects of excessive sweat. Treatment with Botox is considered moderately difficult, as you need to repeat it every year. When it is used to as treatment for facial hyperhidrosis, Botox injections have to be repeated every 4 months.

Excessive Sweat Treatment

While the injections are painfull and unpleasant, many feel that their Botox treatment worked very well and the results are satisfactory. Experienced doctors will know exactly which sweat glands to aim for with the injections and the patient won't have to wait long for the results. This makes Botox a good choice for treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis, but it may be used in other forms of excessive sweating, such as palmar hyperhidrosis. Botox injections are rarely used for treatment of facial sweating, as patients do not respond well to receiving injections in their facial area.

Other Considerations on Botox Injections

The pain of the injections is one of the factors that stop a part of hyperhidrosis patients from trying out Botox treatment. The short and medium term results are satisfactory, but this treatment will not permanently cure excessive sweat. The results of the treatment are also varied from one patient to another – some may respond well to it while for other's it might not produce satisfactory results.

Botox TreatmentBotox injection prices are also high, so many patients get discouraged by the idea that they have to pay a lot for an ongoing treatment. In any case, Botox is one of the most commonly used treatments for hyperhidrosis and can be a solution to turn to if other methods fail to produce good results.
